and heavy rain through the big cities of the northeast and soon new england. it's a rough morning for the commute. winds just gusted to 43 at jfk airport. you can imagine at the airports especially from new york city, philadelphia and northwards will have the most significant delays and cancellations on this friday. thankfully it's just rain. we're not really dealing with igs ice or snow in new england. it's a different story in the great lakes. it's a winter wonderland anywhere in the state of michigan. it snowed hard last night, northern indiana and much of the state of ohio right now is seeing snow. careful driving, interstate 70 going across the lower portions of the great lakes and the ohio valley. and the winds are gusting, too. we probably have a little bit of blowing and drifting snow in indiana, michigan and ohio. and again, those winds this morning around new york city could get as high as 60 miles per hour. the worst of it coming in the next three hours. so keep that in mind as you're driving on the roads or doing anything outdoors. as far as snowfall goes, over the nex
to carry a gun. the "l.a. times," the city of los angeles collected more than -- this story is unbelievable. they collected more than 2,000 firearms part of a guns for groceries buyback program. 75 assault weapons were included in that and two rocket launchers were turned in for cash. >> they got steak and shrimp for the rocket launchers. what about teachers with guns in classrooms? >> i mean, it's amazing to me. i had randy wine gart ten of the american federation of teachers on my show last night. it's outrageous to me on two levels. one, you're going to put more guns into schools it to try to deal with getting guns out of the school. you don't have money for students. you don't have money for sports and arts. you don't have money for anything you need in school, but you're going to find money to buy guns, bullets and training for teachers? where did the conservatives come up with this money from? how, if you had an armed teacher, would that have solved newtown? it would have made that teacher the first target. you had armed people in columbine and virginia tech, and it still happened. it

"the truth is, it was bad strategy to ever deny an individual right to bear arms and, similarly, the special place guns hold in our culture. that mentality alienated potential allies in the ideological middle of the gun debate. in the current state of play, moderate gun owners have become convinced by the nra and other, even moorad cal gun organizations such as gun owners of america, that the goal of all gun safety advocates is to take aware their guns. these owners view even the most reasonable gun-safety proposals with suspicion, fearing a slippery slope to a ban on firearms. this paranoia is what gives the gun lobby its power." and there really is a lot of fear among gun owners. >> well -- >> in certain areas. >> -- when you have gun organizations after barack obama is elect the first same saying they're going
